Reims was originally founded during the period of the Roman Empire and boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage. The oldest monument in Reims is the Porte de Mars, Mars Gate, a triumphal arch 108 feet in length by 43 in height, consisting of three archways flanked by columns. Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Reims is the cathedral where the kings of France used to be crowned. It was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1991, along with the former Abbey of Saint-Remi and the Palace of Tau. Palace of Tau, the archiepiscopal palace, built between 1498 and 1509, and in part rebuilt in 1675, was occupied by the kings on the occasion of their coronation. Saint Rémi of Reims Basilica, an easy one-mile walk from the Cathedral of Notre Dame of Reims, is named for the 5th century St. Rémy, who was the patron saint of St Thierry.
By Car: From Paris: - Take A4 motorway towards Reims. - Take exit 23-Reims-Centre. - Turn left into Boulevard Louis Roederer. - Turn right into Rue de Bir Hakeim. - Continue on Rue Caqué. - And turn left into Rue Buirette. By Train: Reims train station is 10 minutes away from the hotel.
